Glenn Lyons established the guitar program at West
Chester University (WCU) in 1980 and the WCU Guitar Ensemble in 1981. Since then
it has become the most highly developed in the region. Over the years several graduate
of the program have gone on to graduate degrees at Peabody Conservatory, New England
Conservatory, and Yale University. Mr. Lyons received his Masters of Music Degree
from the Peabody Conservatory where he studied with Aaron Shearer. He has performed
master classes for Manuel Barrueco, Benjamin Verdery, Turibio Santos, Christopher
Parkening, and John Mills. Glenn Lyons has appeared as concerto soloist with the
Delaware Symphony, the Main Line Symphony, the Kennett Symphony, and the Towson
Chamber Orchestra. In addition to annual faculty recitals, he frequently appears
on other concerts at the WCU School of Music and has performed a previous recital
with the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society. Recently Glenn Lyons has been
composing music for a 7-string guitar, which was made for him by a California
luthier named Randall Angella. In February 1999 he will perform the
Concerto Elegiaco (No. 3)
for guitar and orchestra by Leo Brouwer with the Main Line
Symphony under the direction of Henry Scott.
