Duo Spinosi Biography

Concert Info  |   Concert Program

After studying guitar and music theory with Roger Generaux and Raymond Gratien, Josianne Rabcmanarjara and Philippe Spinosi went on to perfect their guitar performance skills with such major international artists as Roberto Aussel and Alvaro Pierri. After that they worked with orchestra conductor and flutist Pierre-Alain Biget to develop their approach to ensemble performance. They then had the privilege of studying extensively with Sergio Assad who plays with his brother in the world acclaimed Assad Duo.

The Duo Spinosi won the First Prize at Bubenreuth, Germany, were finalists at the duo guitar competition in Montelimar France, and received unanimously the First Prize of the UFAM (Paris) with special mention of the jury, and they were awarded the laureate grant from "Musiques d'Ensembles" (Paris) and given the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation Award.

Josianne and Philippe Spinosi have appeared in numerous music festivals in France (Reims, Melle, Patrimonio, etc.) and have played for the Jeunesses Musicales de France, giving 180 concerts before about 50,000 young listeners in three years.

They have been invited to play in foreign countries under the auspices of the French cultural centers and of the Alliances Francaises (USA, Germany, Ireland, Morocco, Tunisia and Madagascar).

The Duo has given television broadcasts on France 3 and live broadcasts for Radio France and R.F.O.

The Duo has excited increasing interest among young composers such as Jean Rene Combes and Didier Goret who have dedicated to them particularly fine pieces.

Their latest CD presenting original French music for two guitars composed between 1850 and 1950 has been received with high praise by the critics and the public.

"Exceptionnal qualities ..a touching and refined perfomance...Everything is here, sensibility, intelligence, virtuosity..."
