Guitarist/Composer

Jorge Morel, a grand master of the guitar, has the stage presence and relaxed self-assurance to make playing look easy. One of his greatest assets is his ability to project a bright but sensitive tone and to bring out the most important line, whether that be treble or bass. His sense of pacing is also a joy to behold. This was almost entirely a program of compositions or arrangements by Jorge Morel. As an arranger, large Morel has provided much invaluable material which I am certain will stand the test of time.
Brooke Green, Classical Guitar, London, England

Such a concert happens only once every few years. The main piece of the program was the concerto for guitar called Fantasia de la Danza, which closed the first part of the concert. This was an unusual piece showing off the great imagination of Morel as a composer. The Argentinian gave this piece an extremely varied palette of moods and lyric themes, with aggressive motifs played with intensity. Intensity and aggressiveness are also characteristic of the interpretation or performing style of Morel. Conscious spontaneity full of intensity represents Morel's hot South American temperament. The sound of Morel's guitar --- dry, crystal and almost piercing.
Pietr Zarzycki, Gazeta Wyborcza, Poland

Jorge Morel has a technical facility that makes it possible for him to play anything in a repertory that leads toward the lighter side of music. The combination makes the Argentinian guitarist a popular recitalist and deservedly so. He is a sophisticated artist when dealing with arrangements of folk and musical comedy melodies and one does not have to condescend to enjoy his taste and skill. He can, of course, play smoothly the classic items and the repertory as he demonstrated Thursday night in his program in Alice Tully Hall. Giuliani's ‘Variations On A Theme by Handel’ and Torroba's ‘Sonatina’ were cases in point. But it was when he turned to his own ‘Suite Del Sur’ that lie was in his element. The color effects, the avoidance of anything garish, made his playing singularly appealing. In his arrangement of dances from West Side Story and of an Argentine song played as an encore and ‘In Crespos Nortena’ and Escobar's ‘Chopi’, Mr. Morel gave further evidence of the kind of spell lie can cast over his listeners.
Raymond Ericson, New York Times

Morel stylishly applies a broad range of color and dynamics, and scampers up and down tile fingerboard with dazzling assurance. He is an extraordinarily suave guitarist.... The most enjoyable guitar recital of the season...
